A Message from the Police Chief
On behalf of the River Edge Police Department, I am pleased to welcome you to our website and introduce you to our organization.
The River Edge Police Department is a highly professional agency committed to excellence in every aspect of our service. Our department is comprised of 23 sworn police officers, four Class III Special Law Enforcement Officers who provide security for our public schools, three volunteer Reserve Officers, and a dedicated team of civilian support staff. Together, we work to provide the highest level of public safety and service to our community.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in River Edge by reducing crime, alleviating the fear of crime, and maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our residents, businesses, and visitors. We accomplish this through a balanced approach that includes community partnerships, proactive problem-solving, education, fair and impartial enforcement, thorough criminal investigations, and compassionate support for crime victims. Community policing is at the core of everything we do, and we are committed to serving every member of our community with professionalism, integrity, respect, and unbiased fairness.
The success of our department is a direct reflection of the exceptional men and women who serve our community each day. We are committed to recruiting and retaining the highest-quality professionals, and I am proud of the dedication, compassion, and professionalism our officers demonstrate every day. As an organization, we continually strive to improve our ability to serve the public. In March 2024, the River Edge Police Department successfully achieved accreditation through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. This prestigious recognition signifies that our policies, procedures, and operations meet the highest professional standards and are regularly evaluated to ensure they remain current and consistent with best practices in modern policing.
Through dedication, professionalism, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to public service, we have earned the trust of our community and continue to work each day to uphold that confidence.
