Only a scammer will do that.<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Don\u2019t\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/you-wire-money\"><strong>wire money<\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0or use<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/gift-card-scams\"><strong>gift cards<\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">,<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/what-know-about-cryptocurrency-and-scams\"><strong>cryptocurrency<\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong>, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">or a<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/mobile-payment-apps-how-avoid-scam-when-you-use-one\"><strong>payment app<\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333;\">to pay someone who says they\u2019re with the government.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Scammers\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/how-avoid-scam\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">insist you<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">can only pay these ways<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333;\">because it\u2019s hard to track that money, and just as hard to get it back. They\u2019ll take your money and disappear.<\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Don\u2019t give your financial or personal information<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>to someone who calls, texts, emails, or messages you on social media and says they\u2019re with the government<\/strong>. If you think a call or message could be real, stop. Hang up the phone and call the government agency directly at a number you know is correct. If the call is a<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/robocalls\">robocall<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #333333;\">don\u2019t press any numbers. Pressing numbers could lead to more calls.<\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #333333;\"><strong>Don\u2019t trust your caller ID.<\/strong>\u00a0Your caller ID might show the government agency\u2019s real phone number or name \u2014 like \u201cSocial Security Administration.\u201d But caller ID can be faked. It could be anyone calling from anywhere in the world.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #333333;\"><strong>Don\u2019t click on links in unexpected emails, texts, or social media messages.<\/strong>\u00a0Scammers send emails and messages that look like they\u2019re from a government agency but are designed to steal your money and personal information. Don\u2019t click on any link, and don\u2019t pass it on to others. Just delete the message.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #333333;\">If you get a call or email like this, hang up or don\u2019t respond. Don\u2019t pay or give them any personal information. If you think a call or email could be real, call the court directly at a number you know is correct or the River Edge Police Department to messages falsely portraying the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission and the New Jersey Courts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The scam text messages falsely claim you have an unpaid summons and threaten heavier fines and suspensions if payment is not immediately made.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">These text messages are scams. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission and the New Jersey Court System will never request payment via text messages.
